Aftermath 2004-2011

Das Streben nach Glück scheint bei den Menschen im 21. Jahrhundert mehr und mehr in dem Glauben an permanente Wachstumsmöglichkeiten mit ihren schier grenzenlosen Profiten zu liegen. Das Leben als grenzenlos zu empfinden, ist zu einer Sucht unserer heutigen Gesellschaft geworden. Wir ersetzen das Alte immer wieder durch neuere und effektivere Prozesse ausschließlich mit dem Ziel der Maximierung von materiellen Bedürfnissen. Ich, als Beteiligter und Betrachter, stehe dieser Entwicklung und ihren für mich sichtbaren Folgen fasziniert und erschrocken gegenüber. Diese dabei sich selbst zerstörenden Orte einer solchen Entwicklung sind die Objekte meiner fotografischen Arbeit. Sie führten mich von der Chicagoer Börse hin zu den Townships bei Kapstadt, von den Waldbränden Apuliens über die verlassenen Detroiter Fabriken hin zum Schrottplatz meiner Heimatstadt. So entstanden meine metaphorischen Bilder vom Zustand unserer Welt.

Aftermath 2004-2011

People in the twenty-first century increasingly seem to see the pursuit of happiness in the belief in the possibilities of constant growth and its absolutely limitless profits. To perceive life as boundless has become an addiction in our society today. We always replace the old with newer and more effective processes with the sole aim of maximizing material needs. As a participant and observer, I am fascinated and terrified by this development and its visible consequences, which are visible to me. The sites of such development,  which thereby destroy themselves, are thr targets of my photgraphic work. This has taken me from the Chicago Stock Exchange to the townships near Cape Town, from the forest fires of Apulia to the Detroit’s abandoned factories to the junkyard of my hometown. This is how my metaphorical pictures of the state of our world come about.
